It’s been a minute since we’ve done an update here, so let’s fix that. For a long time, RootsCampers - can you believe it has been 20 years since the first one? That’s right - RootsCamp turns 20 this year!
We’re planning a series of RootsCamps after the election. Some we’re hoping you’ll self-organize in your own communities. Some we’ll organize ourselves. And we’ll cap it all off with a national RootsCamp in January.
For the camps we’re organizing, we’re looking at the first six presidential primary states. We know there will be a whole crew of folks looking to hire organizers there, and plenty of others paying close attention to those states — so it felt like the right place to plant these camps. Nothing about this is easy, but it’s the plan.
We’re still ironing out a long list of details, and we’re hoping to have dates locked in a few weeks before the election so you can start making plans to join us.
Here’s how you can be part of it:
If you want to help make these camps happen, we want to hear from you. If you want to organize your own RootsCamp, we’ve got a RootsCamp in a Box to get you started — and if you’ve got enough folks, we’ll work with you to help raise money too.
You can check out ways to engage and sign up now at rootscamp.app. The site is a work in progress, so check back regularly for updates.
This Substack is still the home for all news and announcements, so make sure you’re subscribed — and share this newsletter with anyone else who’d want in.
As always, your ideas, your feedback, and your support are appreciated. Win, lose, or draw, we debrief together — and we’re looking forward to another great RootsCamp.
In solidarity,
Amy
